About Us

The Sycamore School opened over 10 years ago as The London School, a small, alternative, Ministry inspected micro-school offering families personalized education in a welcoming environment. Located in the downtown core, close to Victoria Park, our students have experienced our vibrant city at its best and enjoyed all that London has to offer. 

Our school's approach to education uses a multidisciplinary, constructivist learning model that blends academic course work with socio-cultural awareness, a commitment to personal health and well-being and a connection to the larger community.  Our graduates have consistently forged their own paths and have moved on as confident young adults to universities across Canada, to apprenticeships, community colleges and programs such as law, dance, climate science, medicine, film and forestry. 

We have recently changed our name to The Sycamore School as a move to challenge the assumptions about the significance of name and place, the colonial legacy associated with London, the land that it is on and traditional views on private schools. The post-COVID need for education that is personalized, relevant and and agile has never been more important and we knew that the time for change was now. As we move forward as The Sycamore School, it is our goal to recognize the lived experiences of our students and families as part of the fabric of who we are as a school and a community.

Now, more than ever, we recognize that students need to be engaged in their learning and motivated to succeed. Our name change has re-invigorated our sense of purpose and our focus on the individual learning process so that students can move forward with a sense of resilience, confidence and belief in themselves and their ability to succeed.
